Once upon a time, a 35mm was an inconspicuous lens (sometimes on an inconspicuous body like the Leica M). Nowadays it is a massive object that shouts “hey, I’m shooting you (but ignore me please)”. And that weighs 1kg.

This looks like 135mm, maybe it is a print error? LOL

Nowadays it is mainly bought to be used in video applications with support (long focus throw, smooth iris, etc.)

That’s why I love Nikon. I still use the Nikkor 35mm f2.8 Ais. It’s small and works great with my FF digital Nikons. Yep, it’s manual. But having the possibility of using this small lenses, still, it’s great.
Having said that, I’ll look closely at this Zeiss.

i’m sure many would love a small light, sharp 35mm f2.

Yeah, another pig-sized lens from Zeiss. So much exciting.

Keep in mind that as big as this lens is (and it is huge), it is ‟only‟ a Milvus… Meaning that an Otus 35mm f1.4 would be even bigger! And, in keeping with tradition, it is still manual focus …

Dear Zeiss, please design a more compact (or less bigly..) Distagon 35mm f2 lens in ZF and ZE mounts (an improved Milvus 35mm f2), bite the bullet and incorporate modern AF and have the whole thing (including AF) made by the same japanese OEM which makes your Batis lenses. Thank you!
