New interview with Sony managers (recap)


Here is the recap of a recent Optyczne Q&A session with Sony managers in Tokyo:

  • The Sony a9 didn’t come with a tilt screen because emphases was on strength and durability.
  • Sony could add touchscreen features to the a9, but they are working on a lot of requests at this time.
  • They aren’t planning on altering eye autofocus
  • Sony isn’t planning on modifying the menus again
  • Sony hoped to make a full frame when they first launched NEX-5, but didn’t have anything in the works due to technological limitations.
  • They were shown the Sony Square, which is an exclusive showroom see their post for more details.
  • Doesn’t sound like A-mount is growing at all, but E-mount is growing dynamically.
  • Said A-mount and E-mount will continue to exist together.
  • Sony isn’t currently planning on producing a medium format camera.
  • Sony plans to develop long/fast telephoto lenses.
  • No plans to add in camera encoder.
  • Sony doesn’t have plans to use their Foveon design in a camera yet.
  • G Master lenses are full frame only at this time.
