Canon is considering to withdraw from the low-priced compact digital camera market (cameras priced under $200) and concentrate on DSLR models in the future. The company is citing plummeted compact cameras sales as a result of fast growing smartphone market.
Olympus filed a new patent for 12mm f/1.0 and 14mm f/1.0 Micro Four Thirds lenses. Canon filed a patent for a 24-85mm f/3.5-5.6 and EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM lenses. Ricoh’s latest patent is for a 24mm f/2 lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras (of 35mm equivalent).
Canon published a new PDF brochure “Story of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Development” where they describe in great details how the new G1 X camera ($799) was designed. I received some information that in addition to the compact cameras, Canon will also introduce a replacement for the Rebel T3/EOS 1100D model. The official announcement should be this week for the CP+ show in Japan. The Canon Rebel T3/EOS 1100D camera has been on the market since February 2011.
