
Ricoh filed a patent for a removable wireless flash. Canon filed a patent in Japan for a ring strobe with a prism design. New Canon 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens patent.

Canon is preparing to move 50% of their production back to Japan by 2015: “Japanese imaging and optical equipment maker Canon plans to return 50% of its production on-shore by the year 2015. Chairman and CEO Fujio Mitarai cited the weak yen and expenses of manufacturing overseas as the main reasons for moving back production to Japan.”

The 2014 CP+ show will start on February 13 and companies will begin announcing their new products in the next 2-3 weeks. Here is a quick recap on what to expect from the major camera manufacturers:

Canon filed patents in Japan for for several new pancake zoom lenses for their EOS-M mirrorless system: 18-40mm f/3.5-5.6 (pancake), 18-55mm f/4-8 (pancake), 10-20mm f/4-5.6 and 9-18mm f/4-5.6. The second Canon patent is for 85mm f/1.8, 100mm f/2 and 135mm f/2.8 full frame lenses with IS (image stabilization)

Fuji filed a patent in Japan for a sensor with enlarged sized green pixels: “The human eye is sensitive to luminance noise than the color noise and it is possible to improve the high sensitivity performance and practical to increase the pixel size of the white and green pixels“.
