Tamron to announce a new 16-300mm lens by the end of the year

Tamron is rumored to announce a new 16-300mm lens for APS-C based DSLR cameras by the end of the year. This is a logical step after Nikon announced their Nikkor AF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G DX last year. Tamron currently has a 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 lens in their lineup.

The latest patents from Olympus, Tamron, Sigma and Sony

Two new macro lens patents: Tamron 90mm f/2.8 and Sigma 180mm f/2.8. Another patent shows Tamron is also working on a 45mm f/2.8 Macro VC lens for Four Thirds cameras and another 60mm f/2.8 Macro VC lens for APS-C cameras. Olympus patented a 3D lens adapter that will achieve 3D effects with a regular camera and lens.

Many US camera and lens rebate programs will expire this weekend

The Nikon rebates will be renewed next month, but many of the high-end lenses will not be included (end June 29th). The current Fujifilm rebates will not be extended (end June 29th). The latest patents from Tamron, Canon, Olympus, Samsung

Tamron’s latest patent is for a 135mm f/2.8 lens for APS-C based cameras (202.5mm equivalent). Canon filed patents for several different lenses: 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 85mm f/1.2 85mm f/1.8 135mm f/2 50mm f/1.4 Olympus filed a patent for a 40-200mm f/4 Micro Four Thirds lens.

Tamron patents a 35mm f/1.4 APS-C mirrorless lens and two new Canon patents

Tamron filed a patent in Japan (2013-83783) for a 35mm f/1.4 APS-C mirrorless lens (50mm equivalent in full frame). The latest lens patents from Canon, Tamron, Sony and Olympus

Canon filed more patents (2013-47780 and 2013-37339) for a 14mm f/2.8 lens (see previous patent here). Tamron’s patent 2013-44964 is for a 10-18mm f/4 lens for APS-C cameras. Two different version were described – with and without image stabilization.

The latest patents from Ricoh, Tamron and Olympus

Ricoh filed patent (2013-7853) for a new 23mm f/2.5 and 27mm f/1.9 lenses for mirrorless APS-C sensor. Not clear if those lenses will be used for the GXR system or for a new GR compact camera Tamron filed a patent (2012-242690) for a 50mm f/1.8 lens designed for an  APS-C mirrorless camera.
