For tomorrow: Pentax K-r, DA 35mm f/2.4 AL lens and two Optio cameras

Tomorrow (September 10th.) Pentax will announce:

  • Pentax K-r:  12.4 MP CMOS sensor, Safox IX AF module, 6 im/s in JPEG mode, 96% 0.85x pentamirror viewfinder, 3″ 921,000 dots LCD screen, Li-ion battery with optional AA-batteries adapter, infra-red data transmission;  649$ body only, 699$ with 18-55mm.
  • Pentax DA 35mm f/2.4 AL lens:  one aspherical lens, bayonet made of polycarbonate, 45mm (length), 124g, 0.3m minimum focus distance;  199$.
  • Two new Pentax Optio point and shoot cameras.

Carl Zeiss Compact Prime CP.2 lenses available for PL-, EF-, F-mount, Micro 4/3 and A-mount

Update: Carl Zeiss announces Compact Prime CP.2 50 mm/T2.1 Makro and CP.2 100 mm/T2.1 CF:

OBERKOCHEN, 09.09.2010 – Carl Zeiss has expanded its popular Compact Prime CP.2 lens series with two new focal lengths: the 50 mm with macro and 100 mm with close focus function. These lenses have been specially developed for filming with HDSLR cameras and will be presented for the first time at the IBC in Amsterdam (September 10-14). Product delivery is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2010. Retail price starts at EUR 3.700 excl. VAT.

Carl Zeiss announced today Micro 4/3 and A-mount versions of their Compact Prime CP.2 lenses.

Update:

More Pentax rumors

More details surfaced about the upcoming Pentax announcements on September 9th and September 20th. In addition to the K-5 and the K-r, expected are also, at least two new lenses, some compact cameras and may be “something completely new”. Still not sure how the new products will be divided between both announcements.

The two new lenses are:

  • DA 35 f/2.4: budget, all-plastic lens; target price below $200
  • DA 18-125 f/3,5-5,6

The K-x and K-r models will probably coexist for a while. K-7 production has already been stopped. Some more details on  the new DSLRs in addition to the specs from yesterday:

  • Pentax K-r: K-x body; AF active sensor visible in the viewfinder; Sony Exmor HD 14 MP sensor (NOT 12 MP as previously reported); 720p video.
  • Pentax K-5: K-7 body; slightly better AF (incorporating some tweaks developed for 645D); Sony Exmor HD 16 MP sensor; 1080 video (unclear whether “i” or “p”).

In terms of the “completely new” product, the expectations are for a new Pentax EVIL camera that could be shown at Photokina , probably under glass, just like the 645D few years back. The second possibility (very low chance) is a new full frame Pentax DSLR.
