Reminder: Japan Industrial Partners will not use the Olympus brand once they take over

In case you have missed my blog posts from two weeks ago where I reported that Japan Industrial Partners will not use the Olympus brand after they take over the Olympus camera business at the end of the year. This means that if JIP decides to produce any new cameras and lenses, they will not be under the Olympus brand – similar to what JIP did with the Sony VAIO laptops (currently sold only as “VAIO”).

Of course the new Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 cameras have “exceeded expectations” and will be delayed

Of course, there is a strong demand for the new Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 mirrorless cameras and of course, Canon proudly issued a statement about it while warning of product delays. Of course, every other company has issued a similar warning for pretty much every major product release in the past few years. If you choose to believe the camera companies, everything is just peachy; customers cannot wait to spend thousands of dollars on the latest gear in the middle of a pandemic, while the camera industry is hardly surviving, every single measure is in the red, companies are exiting the camera business, and financial results are bad.

Kodak Alaris apparently sold their paper and chemicals business to a Chinese corporation

Last year I posted a report that Kodak Alaris was up for sale. Now reports indicate that on July 7 Kodak Alaris apparently sold their paper, photochemicals, display, and software business unit to their Chinese distributor Sino Promise Holdings. The Kodak film business was not part of the acquisition.
