In an interview published by dpreview, Pentax said that they have not ruled out a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera: "If a product makes sense, and is feasible economically, we'll come out with it".
Here is some interesting information I received: Pentax is currently working on two different cameras with interchangeable lenses. The first one will be a digital version of the Pentax Auto 110 wich is actually a tiny SLR type camera (pictured below):
It is not yet clear if old 110 lenses will be compatible with the new digital version.
The second camera will be a "pure" EVIL (electronic viewfinder, interchangeable lenses) version. Announcement could happen as yearly as March of 2011.
A water proof point and shoot camera with built-in GPS will also be announced in 2011. This will be the first Pentax camera with GPS.
In the past Pentax has made it clear that they will take a "different path" and their mirrorless solution will be an "unique and distinctive model". Some interesting patents also surfaced lately that could be directly related to those new cameras. Even Citi Group wrote in one of their reports that “Hoya plans to release a mirrorless camera under Pentax brand that is distinct from models already on the market.”
