The latest lens patents from Ricoh and Olympus

Ricoh filed a patent 2012128045 for 14mm f/2.5 and 19mm f/2.5 lenses (28mm and 35mm equivalent). The interesting part is that the 19mm lens is designed for an APS-C camera (the 14mm lens is for a 4/3inch sensor). Nauticam underwater housing NA-EM5 for Olympus OM-D EM-5

Nauticam announced their NA-EM5 underwater housing for Olympus OM-D EM-5 m4/3 camera with a depth rating of 100m. The retail price is $1350 and is expected to start shipping on July 11, 2012.

Panasonic ends up as the major investor in Olympus

After several months of negotiations, Panasonic ended up investing a large chunk of money in Olympus according to Reuters: “Panasonic Corp is making final arrangements to provide up to 50 billion yen ($635 million) in capital to Olympus Corp in a move that will make Panasonic the top shareholder in the company.”

Panasonic is cutting the workforce of its Osaka head office by between 3,000 and 4,000 workers. Olympus to cut 2,500 jobs, consolidate overseas plants, sell 10 percent stake to Sony or Panasonic.
