Another patent shows Tamron is also working on a 45mm f/2.8 Macro VC lens for Four Thirds cameras and another 60mm f/2.8 Macro VC lens for APS-C cameras.

Olympus 3D lens adapter patent

Olympus patented a 3D lens adapter that will achieve 3D effects with a regular camera and lens.

Ilford, the inkjet paper company, to file for bankruptcy (updated)

The Swiss website 20min.ch reports that Ilford is about to file for bankruptcy citing "significant financial difficulties". Apparently the company was not able to pay the salaries of its 220 employees last month (June). Note: this is not the Ilford UK based company that produces film, but the Ilford inkjet paper company located in Switzerland. Sorry for the misunderstanding, both companies have the same name and logo and I got confused.

Pentax K-01 Marc Newson camera resurrected in blue and white colors

After the price of the Pentax K-01 camera designed by Marc Newson dropped in half and was later officially discontinued, Pentax Japan announced today a new blue and white colored K-01 model. In the press release Pentax mentioned that this new model was released because of increase demand (probably in Japan). B&H still has few two lens K-01 kits that currently sell for around $450.

Deal of the day: Canon EOS M kit with 22mm f/2 lens for $299 (limited quantity)

Update: B&H is sold out, but Amazon is now having the same deal.

The Canon EOS M kit with 22mm f/2 lens currently sells for $299 at B&H (available also in white). The EOS M with 18-55mm lens is $349. Considering the last firmware update which significantly improved the AF of the camera, this is actually a pretty good deal. Limited quantity available.

What else is new?

Sony quietly announced a new DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II lens which is now sold as as a kit lens with the Sony Alpha SLT-A65 camera.


A new Tokina 11-16mm cinema lens is coming in September, the price is expected to be under $2000.

Pentax Japan announced a company name change: "Pentax Ricoh" from now on will be called "Ricoh" only. The Pentax brand of course will continue to exists.

The first rumored Olympus E-M1 specifications

By the end of the year (most likely this summer) Olympus will announce the new E-M1 Micro Four Thirds camera. Here are some of the rumored specifications:

  • DSLR-like design, similar to the E-M5 but with a larger grip that will contain an additional control dial on top
  • Micro Four Thirds mount
  • 16MP sensor
  • 81 AF points
  • 3" tiltable LCD screen
  • Electronic viewfinder with 2,300,000 pixels
  • Max shutter: 1/8000
  • 10 fps
  • Built-in Wi-Fi

Canon officially announced the EOS 70D DSLR camera ($1199 for body only, $1349 for 18-55mm kit and $1549 for 18-135mm kit). There is also a new BG-E14 battery grip ($199.95).
