Sigma MIL camera to be announced in few hours? *updated*

This dpreview forum member claims that Sigma will announce their mirrorless interchangeable lens camera in few hours. Sigma has made a statement in the past that they are developing a mirrorless camera with a Foveon sensor. Based on the pictures, the new Sigma EVIL camera will have a M mount (Leica) unless there is an adapter. This could also be a DIY project, based on the existing Sigma DP1 camera.

Update: the original source of those pictures – this indeed is a DIY project initially posted on xitek.com. More information on this E-mount conversions can be found here:

Micro Four Thirds adapter for EOS lenses

In the next few weeks Birger Engineering will be releasing a Micro Four Thirds adapter with aperture control for EOS lenses. It is not clear yet if the adapter will also support AF (I contacted the company but did not get a response). The rumored price of $700 will make it a hard sell, but it is good to see that independent companies are working on different solution for m4/3.

Epson sees a possibility for a new R-D1 digital rangefinder

Epson R-D1

Epson R-D1

In an interview with AP, Rob Clark (executive director of Epson Europe Marketing Division) stated that Epson is working on various new digital camera technologies that could bring a new version of the R-D1. The exact quote was: “whether we come out with another version of the R-D1 is a possibility”.

The Epson R-D1 was the world’s first digital rangefinder camera and was introduced back in 2004.

In addition to the AP report, I received some information that a new version of R-D1 is exactly what Epson has in mind and they openly talked about it at a recent photography event.
