I am 50 years old! I often tend to forget about it, but my body keeps on reminding me, especially my back. Since I was not using my DSLR too often lately, I traded my lovely old Nikon AF-D 60 macro lens for the Leica designed Panasonic 2.8/45 macro lens (price: $684.88).

NYTimes got their hands on an internal memo from the current ongoing Olympus investigation in Japan and it seems that the initial accusations of organized crime involvement may be more than just a rumor. Currently there are $4.9 billion that are not accounted for and there is a suspicion that portion of those funds went to organized crime group a.k.a. the Yakuza:
“The memo says investigators believe that over half of that amount has been channeled to organized crime syndicates, including the country’s largest, the Yamaguchi Gumi. The memo does not make clear whether Olympus knew about those links. But if confirmed by investigators, an association with organized crime could prompt a delisting of Olympus shares from the Tokyo Stock Exchange, under the exchange’s rules.”

I came across this quote from TOP regarding the latest rumors about an organic sensor being used in the Fuji LX 10 camera:
“Komori-san says that the sensor quality of Fujifilm X mirrorless will exceed that of current full-frame sensors, although its sensor size will likely be smaller than 24x36mm. The claim reminded me of something…I have a hazy memory of someone with knowledge of the industry telling me long ago that an official of Canon said that Fuji is the only company Canon is scared of—not Panasonic, not Sony, not Nikon—because of Fuji’s expertise with sensors. (I might not have that right, so please don’t quote me.)”
Update: Kodak contacted me to clarify that those are not product discontinuations, just packaging changes:
Kodak is only ceasing one line, Elite Chrome. The rest are all simply packaging and catalogue listing changes, which is not such an unusual procedure. As long as photographers purchase and use Kodak’s film in sufficient quantities and demonstrate their commitment to film that way, we will be able to continue manufacturing the film.
