One not-so-good review of the Hasselblad X1D mirrorless medium format camera

The Camera Store videos are pretty much the only YouTube reviews I watch lately. A few days ago they published their Hasselblad X1D mirrorless medium format camera hands-on field test and things do not look very good for Hasselblad. After several delays, a new CEO and a possible acquisition by DJI the X1D is not where we would like it to be. I personally had high hopes for this camera, but after I have seen the results from the Fujifilm GFX 50S camera ($6,499.95 for the Fuji vs. $8,995 for the Hasselblad), I am convinced that Fuji does offer the better solution here.

Rumored Olympus E-M10 Mark III camera to have 4k video

Optyczne reports that the rumored Olympus E-M10 Mark III MFT camera will have 4k video recording capabilities. The official announcement should be this summer.

The camera was already registered with the government communication agencies in Taiwan and Russia and was recently “hinted“ by an “Olympus Visionary“.

New Sony teaser for their upcoming camera

Yesterday Sony China uploaded a new teaser for an upcoming camera on their Weibo account. It appears that the teaser shows the evolution of a compact camera on the first row with the question “What’s the next?”. The second row has three full frame cameras, one of them with a fixed lens (RX1).

Sony has been rumored to announce a new RX1R III camera or another RX model. Stay tuned for more details.

Photonstophotos report: Sony a9 vs. Nikon D5 vs. Canon 1D X Mark II

Photonstophotos published their Sony a9 test results with some comparison data from the Canon 1D X Mark II and Nikon D5 cameras:

Photonstophotos updated their Sony a9 results with final data and it performs very well against its competitors up till 3200 ISO, where the Nikon D5 just edges it out. It’s good to see that the electronic shutter of the Sony a9 doesn’t affect the dynamic range of the a9 much according to Photonstophotos’ results. The Sony a9, beats the Canon 1D X Mark II across the board, but falls just behind the Nikon D5 in low light, while besting it in maximum dynamic range. (SonyAddict)

Sony a9 overheating? (and other reported problems)

The Sony a9 full frame mirrorless camera ($4,498) just started shipping a few days ago and we already have the first overheating reports (Sony had several overheating issues with different cameras over the years):

But one unnerving thing was that the high temp warning came on. I was admittedly in the sun most of the time but it’s only around 65 degrees today in NJ. I did have the camera on and shooting probably for 40-45 minutes nonstop. (No video, by the way.) I set the sleep timer to 10 seconds and that seemed to help. But this worries me a bit for summer/warm weather shooting.
