The new Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary mirrorless lens is rumored to cost around $400


The Japanese website Nokishita reports that the new Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary lens that was announced two weeks ago will be available for pre-order start shipping on November 22nd. The Japanese price is expected to be ¥48,600 including tax (around $420). I expect the US price to be $399. Check the product listings at B&H.

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary is a mirrorless lens for Sony E-mount and MFT based cameras.

In addition to the new 16mm f/1.4 and the already existing 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, Sigma is also planning to release another middle telephoto lens for Sony E-mount and MFT (between 45mm and 90mm focal length, maybe even between 60mm and 90mm):

First pictures of Panasonic Lumix G9 camera and Leica DG Elmarit 200mm f/2.8 lens


The first pictures of the rumored Panasonic Lumix G9 camera leaked online. The official announcement will be in the next 1-2 days - most likely on Wednesday, November 8th. Here are the rumored specifications:

  • To be announced in the next 1-2 weeks, available after Christmas
  • Same photo capabilities as the GH5
  • Different video capabilities (compared to the GH5)
  • Second display on top of camera
  • Rumored price: €1,200 (around $1,400)
  • Very fast shooting rate with a large buffer (60 fps burst)
  • 80MB shooting mode - it can stitch multiple pictures (for example 6 pictures can produce 1GB final image)
  • 20MP sensor
  • 6k photo mode
  • Two memory card slots

TowerJazz and Yuanchen Microelectronics announce partnership for backside illumination (BSI) manufacturing in China


TowerJazz, the company that is rumored to be the Leica Q sensor manufacturer, announced a partnership with Changchun Changguang Yuanchen Microelectronics Technology, a BSI process manufacturer for backside illumination (BSI) manufacturing in China to provide the BSI process segment for CMOS image sensor wafers manufactured by TowerJazz. This partnership will allow TowerJazz to serve its worldwide customers with advanced BSI technology in mass production, at competitive prices, starting in the middle of 2018.
