Sony a7r III mirrorless camera officially announced




As I already reported, at exactly 2:30am EST Sony officially announced their new Sony a7r III mirrorless camera. Here are the basic specs (Google translated):

  • 35mm Full-Frame 42.4 MP Back-Illuminated Exmor R™ CMOS Image Sensor with Evolved Image Processing
  • Continuous Shooting at up to 10 fps with either Silent Shooting or Mechanical Shutter and full Auto Focus/Auto Exposure tracking
  • 399 phase-detection AF points covering 68% of image area, 425 contrast AF points and approximately 2 times more effective Eye AF
  • 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization with a 5.5 step[v] shutter speed advantage
  • High Resolution 4K Movie Shooting with full pixel readout and no pixel binning
  • Completely redesigned for professionals, including upgraded Auto Focus, Dual SD Card Slots, Extended Battery Life, SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.1 Gen 1) USB Type-C™ Terminal and more
  • Compact, Lightweight body at only 23 oz
  • Battery capacity increased by about 2.2 times
  • ISO range of 100 - 32000 (expandable to ISO 50 – 102400 for still images)
  • US price: $3,199

Confirmed: Sony a7r III mirrorless camera and two lenses to be announced for the PhotoPlus expo


Nokishita just confirmed that Sony will shortly announce:

  • Sony a7r III mirrorless camera
  • Sony FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens (future development)
  • Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS lens

Olympus to announce the rumored 17mm f/1.2 PRO and 45mm f/1.2 PRO lenses on October 26th

The previously rumored Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f/1.2 PRO and 45mm f/1.2 PRO lenses will be officially announced on October 26th (Japanese time - probably on October 25th EST) during the 2017 PhotoPlus show in NYC. The official release date will be in late January 2018.

Olympus already has one fast PRO lens (25mm f/1.2).

Olympus is also rumored to announce a new camera at a later date.

Sigma announces the development of a new 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary mirrorless lens




Sigma officially announced the development of the new 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary mirrorless lens for Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds. The release date and price are TBD (check US pricing here). The lens hood will be available as an accessory (LH716-01).

Update: the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary mirrorless lens will be released on November 19th.

In addition to the new 16mm f/1.4 and the already existing 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, Sigma is also planning to release another middle telephoto lens for Sony E-mount and MFT (between 45mm and 90mm focal length, maybe even between 60mm and 90mm):
