Sony patents full frame mirrorless lenses designed for curved sensor

Sony 35mm f1.8 full frame mirrorless lens for curved sensor

Sony filed a patent application in Japan (2013-61476) for a full frame 35mm f/1.8 mirrorless lens designed for curved sensors. The patent contains also calculations for 35mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2.2 and 30mm f/2.0 lenses, all designed for a curved sensor. Sony, NikonKonica Minolta and others have also filed various patents for curved sensors in the past. The purpose of a curved sensor is to improve the sharpness in the corners of the image and reduce aberration.

Nothing new, already the nineteen fitees AGFA GEVAERT Germany had a curved film plane it its Click and Clack camera

“Disposable” 35mm cameras also use a curved film plane. This allows them to get a reasonably sharp image out of a one-element plastic lens.

I agree. Now you need to buy new lenses made for curved sensors and all the lenses you bought before go to the trash bin. Big hooray for Sony!
