Samsung to slowly abandon point and shoot cameras and concentrate on mirrorless

Samsung reminded us again that they want to becomethe biggest mirrorless camera vendor by 2015 with a more than twenty-percent market share“. In order to achieve that, the company will be slowly phasing out its point and shoot cameras production and concentrate entirely on mirrorless solutions: “low-end compact camera offerings will gradually be reduced, as we are now concentrating on the mirrorless segment” according to the WSJ.

Samsung recently announced three new mirrorless NX cameras and is planning to announce more mirrorless products during Photokina 2012.

The new lenses will be on the same quality level as the full frame SLR Magic HyperPrime 50mm T0.95 lens, which looks and performs very similar to the $11,000 Leica Noctilux – see also the sample images in this post:

New Lens/Focus shifter – lens mounted follow focus project on Kickstarter

The Lens/Focus Shifter is a low budget ‘follow focus’ product which attaches to lenses with circumferences from 176mm to 308mm, or lenses like the 50mm f/1.8 to the larger zoom lenses. The great thing about this product is that it attaches to these lenses without the need of rails, with the simple attachment mechanism it simply slides onto any size lens, making it a very flexible, low priced and innovative product. Using this product will definitely improve focusing skills for photography and cinematography, as critical focus points can be pre-focused and marked with the marker pen to ensure the focus puller/camera operator reaches those critical focus points during filming or taking photos.
It’s currently available for $45 on Kickstarter:
