Update: the new 8mm fisheye lens is available for pre-order on Amazon.
As previously reported, today Panasonic announced a new Lumix 8mm f/3.5 fisheye G lens and a new point and shoot camera Lumix FX75 (I got a tip in advance and this post was online for a short period of time last week, but then I was politely asked to remove it until the day of the actual announcement):
The Panasonic FX75 will have 14MP and a Leica 24mm ultra-wide-angle f/2.2 Summicron lens with 5x optical zoom. The camera will support HD video in AVCHD Lite format. No RAW file format.
Full press release after the break:
After the amazing Sony concept, today Tecnofotografia published a new Samsung concept – you can attach the flash unit on top of the viewfinder! Can someone offer those guys a job to design photo equipment?
Metz has listed a new Mecablitz 58 AF-2 flash unit on their website:
It will be available for Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Leica, Pentax, Sony. At that point no further details are provided on their website.
Many Tamron lenses are available @ 50% discount from their regular MSRP on Amazon – maybe they are clearing inventory for Photokina announcements:
Now the complete product lineup from Samyang is available for sale (some products were previously available only for pre-order):
In addition to the rumored update of the 80-400mm with VR lens, Tokina will also introduce a new 16-28 f/2.8 full frame lens this Fall (probably around Photokina). Tokina currently makes the most compact 80-400 lens (Tokina 80-400/4.5-5.6 AT-X 840 D) in the market and most of their lenses are made in Japan.
Update on the latest Sony developments:
Bloomberg reports that Yutaka Yamanaka, the grandson of the Hoya Corp. founders is not happy with the $1billion purchase of Pentax and describes it as “overpriced” and “failure”. This is not really surprising and all stories about Hoya trying to sell Pentax are probably more than just a rumor (via pentaxforums).
Another Pentax related rumor: there is a thread in the PentaxForums that the 50mm lens will be discontinued this Fall and Pentax will move forward with the 55mm model.
