Ricoh CX5 camera announced

The previously rumored Ricoh CX5 compact camera got officially announced today. The main features:

  • High-speed autofocus using the unique hybrid AF system developed by Ricoh
  • Improved image resolution through use of super-resolution technology
  • Super-resolution zoom equivalent to up to 600 mm in addition to the 10.7× 28–300 mm optical zoom
  • High-quality photography that widens the range of image expression
  • 14 different types of Scene Modes providing easy access to whole suites of photographic techniques specifically adapted to the subject
  • Creative shooting modes that allow you to enjoy shooting creative images
  • High-definition 3.0-inch, 920,000-dot LCD monitor
  • A wide variety of functions based on the concept of the CX5 being “a tool that you will find yourself wanting to use every day”
  • Price: £259.99

Pentax acknowledges K-5 sensor issues, offers a fix and an apology

Pentax issued this statement about the stains on the Pentax K-5 sensor:

“To PENTAX K-5 Digital SLR Camera Users
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation for your patronage of PENTAX products.

We deeply regret that the first shipment of our PENTAX K-5 digital SLR camera included some products with a stained image sensor — a problem which we believe was caused during manufacturing – causing them to occasionally produce images with spots which look something like water drops, and which users cannot remove with ordinary cleaning methods.

Fuji X100 updates including first photo samples

  • A Norwegian website got a hold of a pre-production version of the Fuji X100 and posted multiple test images at different ISO. Check it out asap because I am afraid the review will be pulled down. Update: yes, all Fuji x100 sample images were removed from the site.

Phase One IQ180, IQ160 and IQ140 digital camera backs announced

The previously rumored Phase One 80MP digital back with new design got released today. The new line is called IQ and currently features the Phase One IQ180, IQ160 and IQ140 digital camera backs with resolutions of 80MP, 60.5MP and 40MP respectively. The new models are expected to be available at the end of April 2011 for the IQ180 and end of May 2010 for the IQ160 and IQ 140. The starting price point is 16.990 EUR/21.990 USD.

Pentax rumors: K-5 Silver, compact RZ-18 and mirrorless NC-1 cameras coming next

Similar to the Pentax k-7 Silver, there will be a new Pentax K-5 Silver DSLR that will be announced next month (February 2011).

In addition, there will be a new point and shoot camera Pentax RZ-18 with 3″ swivel LCD, 14MP sensor, 18X optical zoom (28-504mm) and a price tag of $300. The camera is expected to be very small in size.

The mirrorless camera from Pentax will be called NC-1. Pentax is expected to release two different EVIL cameras and I am not sure which one will be announced first. The RZ-18 and the NC-1 may be announced at a later date (not together with the Pentax k-5 Silver).

Similar to last year, Ricoh will announce a new CX5 compact camera in February. The only change from the current CX4 model is that the Ricoh CX5 will have a HDMI slot, which means that the basic specs should remain the same:

  • 920,000-dot, 3.0 in. LCD
  • 10.7x optical zoom (28-300mm)
  • 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor
  • f/3.5-5.6 aperture
  • 5fps
