Fuji: no new DSLR in 2009
“Fuji is not manufacturing a pro camera for this year,” said Diane Rainey, Group Manager for Fujifilm.
Does this mean that they will be one coming out next year? Fuji S6 PRo?
Olympus confirmed: pro Pen camera in the future
BJP did an interview with Akira Watanabe and Miquel Angel Garcia from Olympus – they have big plans for the future of 4/3 format:
“Of course, Olympus is looking to attract pro shooters, Garcia says, and one way to do that is with a viewfinder and integrated flash, which the E-P1 lacks. ‘Our main focus with this first model has been to make a compact camera to attract the users from the compact market,’ he says. However, professional photographers wishing for a viewfinder will see their wishes granted, according to Watanabe. ‘We are now preparing for future products to incorporate a electronic viewfinder,’ as well as a flash, he says.”
Pentax K-7 user manual now online
Uploaded personally by Ned Bunnell (President of Pentax Imaging USA):

Pentax K7 final version will have a modified sensor
“Amateur Photographer (AP) has delayed its review of the Pentax K7 digital SLR after learning that the final version will include a modified imaging sensor.”
There must be a reason for this last moment modification and every pre-production Pentax K7 review should be “voided” at that point. I cannot recall another company making such a drastic change in the last moment.
Samsung NX3 specs
Samsung NX3 specs:
- Ultra-Precise LED Electronic ViewFinder 1620×1080p/250Hz 3:2 resolution
- 1X magnification and 100% coverage

- CMOS sensor 14.6 megapixel 3:2
- 100-6400 ISO
- 4 frame per second
- Video HD 720p/30fps
- Audio stereo
This would be the first camera with a HD AMOLED display.
Samsung NX line will feature APS C sensor and an EVF instead of a mirror box. Read the press release here (from PMA 2009). Expected release date: July 7th, 2009 (with some other Samsung goodies).
Canon 1D Mark IV specs
Apperently the Canon 1D Mark IV is currently being tested. Here are the suggested specs (not finalized yet):
- Images ~16MP
- ISO 50-26500
- 8MP sRAW1 format providing images that seem to best 1D3 files in detail [typo corrected]
- Very clean images at ISO 3200. 6400/12800 take further processing very well
- Slightly faster FPS than 1D3 in real life shooting
- AF greatly improved and very good in low light (actual comment was ‘Nikon fast’ 😉
- Liveview AF – not up to fast sports use, but very usable otherwise
- Video as with 5D2
- Screen as per 5D2
- Ergonomic improvements with grips – some buttons moved
- Feels faster and more responsive in nearly all aspects of real use

Back to Sony DSLR with video
Danish photo magazine Zoom announced that they will have a review of a new Sony camera with HD video in their September edition. The latest Sony rumors (leaked on Sony’s website) point to a new Sony a500 and a550 cameras.
Just a reminder that it was the same Danish magazine that leaked the Sony a900 last year. If someone has read the article and has more info, please post a comment or contact me.
The guts of the m4/3 Olympus E-P1
I am continuing with the series “The guts of the Olympus E-P1”. After the 17mm f/2.8 pankace lens, we can now see under the skin of the actual E-P1 body (which btw also appear to be made out of plastic, the skin is metal). Click on image for larger view:
