Tomorrow is May 26th :)
Update: Olympus uploaded another video today (Olympus Pen EE) – I guess they will cover the whole Pen history until Jun 16th and then announce the new m4/3 camera – note that the updates are every week on Tuesday: last update was on May 26 (today – Tuesday), next one is on June 2nd (Tuesday), I guess there will be another one on June 9th and on June 16th (also a Tuesday) we will see the m4/3.
Remember the Olympus Pen update, scheduled for tomorrow (May 26th)?
Here are some interesting details from that page:
“if you view the page code, the alt placeholder for the “may 26, 2009″ update graphic says June 16, 2009”
Well, June 16 is the official released date of the Olympus m4/3 camera.
Here is the code:
<li style=“margin:0; padding:0; float:left;”><a href=“../pen/”><img onmouseover=“this .src=’../images/pen_o.jpg'” onmouseout=“this .src=’../images/pen_o.jpg'” src=“../images/pen_o.jpg” width=“115” height=“100” alt=“OLYMPUS PEN (1959)” /></a></li>
<li style=“margin:0; padding:0; float:left;”><img src=“../images/next_01.gif” width=“115” height=“100” alt=“NEXT UPDATE : June 16th, 2009” /></li>
I am very curious what will Olympus display tomorrow on that site.
New Pentax lenses leaked?
Those pictures appears to be from a new Pentax lenses roadmap (here is a link to the current, official roadmap). The new lenses are:
- DFA 20mm/2.8 SDM
- DFA 645 25mm/2.8
- DFA 645 55mm/2.8
- DFA 50mm/1.0 SDM
- DA 135mm/2.8 LIMITED
- DA 400mm/4 ED (IF) SDM
Post rating system implemented
At the bottom of each post you will see the like & dislike buttons. Please use this system to rate the actual post and not the validity of the content/rumor or your personal Nikon preferences/expectations (I will be adding separate polls for that when appropriate). Based on your feedback I will make future adjustments: you will see more of the “like” type posts and less of the “dislike” posts. Thanks!

Sony a500 and a550 coming soon?
The web site sonystyle.ca offers some interesting choices when you attempt to register your new Sony camera:
DSLRA350KCF
DSLRA380L
DSLRA380S
DSLRA500
DSLRA500S
DSLRA550
DSLRA550S
DSLRA700
DSLRA700P
DSLRA900
Many Sony fans were disappointed when the last set of new DSLRs did not have any video capture. I think we can be certain that the Sony a500 and Sony a550 will have video recording capabilities.

Latest Olympus patents
Patents are difficult to read unless you have a PhD. Not all patents make it to the production line, but it is still very interesting to see where the R&D effort is spent. Here are the latest Olympus patent applications made public just few days ago:
- CAMERA HAVING A DUST-PROOFING MEMBER THAT IS VIBRATED TO REMOVE DUST: A camera includes a dust-proofing member which has a transparent portion through which a visible light component is transmitted. The transparent portion is opposed to the front of an image pick-up device at a predetermined interval. A vibration member is arranged at a peripheral portion of the dust-proofing member and vibrates the dust-proofing member. A sealing part seals a space between the image pick-up device and the dust-proofing member. And a spring pressing member presses the dust-proofing member at a periphery thereof toward the sealing part (FYI: Olympus was first to include a dust reduction system on a DSLR source).

- WATERPROOF HOUSING: A waterproof housing is provided with an engaging member that can engage with rotary members provided respectively on a plurality of cameras. The rotary members can be rotated from the outside of the waterproof housing. Accordingly, the plurality of cameras can be stored and operated selectively in a single waterproof housing. For example, the engaging member can be configured in such a manner that a plurality of multiple recessed portions are provided concentrically so that each one of the plurality of rotary members can be fitted to any one of the recessed portion out of the multiple recessed portions.

- DIGITAL CAMERA SYSTEM: A digital camera system includes a digital camera unit, and an authenticating unit in which unique setup control data of the digital camera unit is stored. The digital camera unit includes an imaging module that picks up an object image to generate image data, a first human body communication module that conducts communication via a human body, and a first controller that performs a setup operation related to at least one of a plurality of functions of the digital camera unit according to the setup control data received from the authenticating unit by the first human body communication module. In addition, the authenticating unit includes a second human body communication module that conducts communication via the human body, a setup control data storing unit in which the setup control data is stored, and a second controller that causes the setup control data to be transmitted to the digital camera unit via the second human body communication module.

- ELECTRONIC STILL CAMERA AND IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS: An electronic still camera includes a position calculating unit. A storage unit stores the self-position data calculated by the position calculating unit, as photography-site data, in association with the image data acquired by photographing an object. If the self-position data cannot be acquired at the time of photographing the object, a control unit sets the self-position data acquired by the position calculating unit at a time different from the time of photographing the object, in the storage unit as the photography-site data.

Apple to re-enter digital camera business?
Lately a lot of speculations have emerged that the next version of iPhone/iPod will have a better built-in camera that will turn those devices into a “digital photography computer” (source). The article also points out that Apple was in the digital camera business back in 1994 with the Apple QuickTake digital camera line:
