Few months ago Olympus did confirm their commitment to the Four Thirds format. The company recently filed a patent (2012-230323) in Japan for a Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds mount lens adapter with built-in autofocus and image stabilization. This is not a surprise, since every manufacturer that has a mirrorless and DSLR cameras today also offers compatible lens adapters.
Panasonic filed a patent 2012-226309 for a new 25mm f/1.4 Summilux lens for Micro Fourth Thirds cameras. For comparison, here is the lens design of the current Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 ASPH model:
Ricoh filed patent 2012211956 in Japan for a 5.3-22mm f/2-3.5 lens designed for a 1/1.7″ sensor (24-100mm equivalent). The lens design contains 11 elements in 8 groups, including two aspherical elements. This lens could be designed for the Pentax Q system, which has a 1/2.3″ sensor, or for a new GXR module.
Olympus filed patent 2012-199834 in Japan for a tilt lens similar to a Lensbaby. Based on the patent description, the lens will not be able to “shift“. In addition to Lensbaby, some photographers have also successfully used third party tilt-shift bellows on Olympus m4/3 cameras.
