Fujifilm confirms that it is considering a compact system camera

Fujifilm confirmed to AP that it is considering to launch a compact system camera.

Flashback:

This rumor started back in 2009 when a Micro Four Thirds camera with an EXR sensor was expected to be announced at the 2010 PMA show. The camera never materialized, but few months later Fuji announced the FinePix X100 which became an instant hit.

Back in February the Fujiguys tweeted about something exciting coming in fall of 2011.

A week ago Fujifilm executive mentioned to Reuters that Fuji may re-enter the interchangeable lens camera market with a product that is fully developed in-house (mirrorless camera and lenses).

The latest rumors indicate that Fujifilm will release three new cameras this fall with a possibility of two different mirrorless models and new Fujinon lenses.
