New lenses, curved image sensor patents from Sigma, Canon and Sony

Sigma filed patent 2012-181508 in Japan for 30mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2.5, 45mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/2.8, 55mm f/2.8 mirrorless lenses. Canon filed patent 2012-159723 for a 14mm f/2.8 lens. The design contains 14 elements in 10 groups.

Pricing and availability of Sigma DP1 Merrill announced

Sigma announced the price and availability of their 46MP Sigma DP1 Merrill camera: you can buy the camera next month for $999. The DP1 model has a 19mm f/2.8 lens (equivalent to 28mm), the already available DP2 version has a 30mm f/2.8 lens (45mm equivalent). Sigma has no plans for a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera

In a recent interview with the Chinese website Xitek, Sigma confirmed that they do not have plans to develop a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The company will concentrate on producing lenses, DSLR and compact cameras. This contradicts with a previous statement made by Sigma in 2010.

Sigma announced pricing and availability of the 46MP DP2 Merrill camera

Sigma announced the price and availability of the Sigma DP2 Merrill camera: shipping will start in July 2012 for a street price of $999 which is actually reasonable considering that the camera will have the 46MP APS-C X3 sensor form the SD1.
