Sigma patents several APS-C lenses with image stabilization

Simga’s 2012-234169 patent has calculations for 30mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2.5, 28mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/2.8 and 55mm f/2.8 lenses designed for APS-C sized sensor. The interesting part is that the described lenses have built-in image stabilization. On few occasions in the past Sigma has made statements that they are not interested in developing a mirrorless interchangeable lens system camera. My guess is that those patents are for future DP compact camera models (like the DP1 and DP2). Here are some of the lens designs mentioned in the patent:

Next Canon EOS M mirrorless camera rumored to have EVF

The next mirrorless camera from Canon is rumored to have a built-in EVF (the above pictures are a mockup). The first EOS M model did not come with an EVF because Canon felt that the current technology was not advanced enough. The company reportedly will not venture  in hybrid or optical viewfinders for their future mirrorless models. The new EOS M camera is expected to be released towards the end of 2013.

Canon Powershot G15 and Sony NEX-6 DxOMark test results

DxOMark released their test results for the Canon Powershot G15 and Sony NEX-6 cameras. Here are their conclusions:

Canon G15

This is a good result overall and when considering the G15’s other features such as the flexibility of the new high-speed zoom and reduction in size over pervious iterations it’s a extremely well-balanced and attractive package. For consumers the choice remains whether to spend more an equivalent micro four-thirds camera with a number of lenses to match the same kind of flexibility or whether to restrict that versatility somewhat by selecting a more compact model such as the S110. Alternatively, you could consider the G1X or Sony RX100, both offer superior low–light performance with only a small premium to pay in both size and price.

Magic Lantern successfully hacks Canon EOS-M mirrorless camera

Magic Lantern was able to successfully hack the Canon EOS-M mirrorless camera and are now collecting suggestions for new features. It seems that the excitement for this camera is not very big in Canon’s community and priority will be given to the development of new features for the 5D Mark III and 7D cameras.
