Sony a900 discontinued in the US

After the Sony a900 was already discontinued in Japan and Hong Kong, now B&H has also listed the camera as discontinued. The a900 was announced in September, 2008. RIP.

Panasonic files a patent for in-camera image stabilization

Panasonic has a pending patent in Japan for in-camera image stabilization system. This solution will also prove image stabilization for third party lenses.

Pentax lens price increase coming to the UK as well

After the price increase in the US, the price of Pentax lenses will be going up in the UK as well according to this post on PentaxForums. I still have not seen the new prices on Jessops or Amazon UK.

Sony a37 listing appeared on Irish online store

A month ago Sony announced their new a57 SLT camera. The Sony a35 model has already been discontinued and is expected to be refreshed soon. An Irish online store had a listing for a Sony Alpha SLT-A37 camera kit priced at €649.99 and body only for €499.99.

Pentax to announce another cheaper mirrorless camera

Nikkei.com reported that Ricoh Pentax will announce another low-priced miorrorless camera (priced at  ¥50,000, around $600). Pentax already has the entry level Q model and the recently announced K-01 mirrorless camera, while Ricoh has the mirrorless GXR system.

For the NAB 2012 show in Las Vegas Canon announced the following new products:

  • Canon EOS-1D C 4K camera:

“Delivering outstanding video performance, the compact, lightweight EOS-1D C provides video recording at 4K (4096 x 2160-pixel) or Full HD (1920 x 1080-pixel) resolution to support high-end motion picture, television production and other advanced imaging applications. Equipped with an 18.1-megapixel full-frame 24mm x 36mm Canon CMOS sensor, the camera records 8-bit 4:2:2 Motion JPEG 4K video to the camera’s CF memory card at 24 frames-per-second (fps) or Full HD 1920 x 1080 video at selectable frame rates from 24p to 60p, making it possible for next-generation visual expression with even higher image-quality and resolution performance.”

Canon to announce EOS C500, 1D cameras and new lenses at NAB 2012

During NAB Canon is expected to release a new EOS C500 cinema camera:

“It is 4K at 120fps with EOS RAW via 3G HD-SDI… At 60 fps EOS RAW from the C500 is 12 bit. This drops to a still impressive 10 bit at 120p. The C500 also pumps out 1080p, 2K and Quad HD.”
