Samsung NX200 first impressions

First impressions of the upcoming Samsung NX200 camere were published online today on a Russian forum:

“Focusing is really very nimble (not inferior Panasonic G3). NX200 looks stylish and professional, much smaller, more comfortable grip, but too small for my hand. Traditionally, high-quality screen. By design, like most of all Samsung cameras (NX100 and NX200 – heaven and earth). With the new lens 18-200 looks very solid. The quality of images have not been able to assess, in the hands was an engineering sample. In two weeks will be the serial.”

Lytro light field camera briefly appears in a promotional video

Lytro released a video of a fashion model photographed with their light field camera. The camera appearance is blurred throughout the video except at the 1:26 mark where you can see a pixelated glimpse of the camera and its size:

 

Based on this picture, the camera appears not to be bigger than a regular DSLR.

Samsung: “We have the technology to develop a medium format cameras but we are not going to do that”

Mirrorless NX prototypes from Samsung promotional video

Megapixel published an interview with Sungrok Kim (Samsung’s regional product manager for Digital Imaging Middle East & North Africa) where he denied existing rumors that Samsung is pursuing plans to develop a medium format digital camera:

Q: A few weeks ago an image appeared on Samsung’s website depicting what appears to be a camera with a large square sensor. What can you tell us about that?

A: We have the technology to develop a medium format cameras but we are not going to do that because this is not our market. Samsung is a manufacturer that focuses on a broad market – we are not a niche manufacturer like Hasselbald or Lieca. What you see in the image was developed for internal purposes in order to look into future technologies. At this point we have no plans to release it to the public. We have done similar things with lenses – for example we developed a 1000mm lens for astronomical use – but again just for internal purposes.

Few new leaks from Sony (incl. A77 and A65 prices)

It seems that Sony is about to introduce a new CyberShot DSC-TX55 compact camera. The news is already (prematurely) up on DCView.

The French magazine Réponses Photo (page 36) lists the prices of Sony a65 and a77 cameras:

  • Sony a65 with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens: €1000
  • Sony a65 body only: €900
  • Sony a77 with 16-50mm f/2.8 lens: €1800
  • Sony a77 body only: €1050
Those previously leaked images of the Sony a77 camera are making their rounds on the Internet again today, I guess nobody really thought they were real the first time around:

Sigma SD1 can do LiveView, full frame Foveon sensor in development?

At a recent event in Japan, Sigma representatives confirmed that the latest SD1 camera can do LiveView without a physical change to the camera:

“We can add the feature, however the hard part is to ensure that the camera operate in a stable manner with that addition. However, this is a high priority for us and we plan to take this on as soon as we finish working through some of the issues that we have pending right now. When and if we actually make this happen is up in the air at this point.”

Some Sony Alpha A99 rumors

I received some rumored specs for a new Sony Alpha A99 camera. No details were provided as of when this camera will be announced:

  • Translucent mirror
  • 36.9 Megapixel 3MOS Exmor sensor
  • (No Bayer filter)
  • ISO 100-102400 extendable to 204800 and 409600
  • 12 frames per second
  • No infrared or anti-alias filters
  • Digital infrared filtering with three modes NO IR,WITH IR,ONLY IR
  • In camera moire remove
  • 89 cross-type points AF
  • Metering direct from sensor
  • 60/1-1/24000sec, time, bulb shutter (focal plane)
  • Flash synchronization up to 1/500sec and high-speed sync up to 1/24000sec
  • Built-In GPS and Wi-Fi plus Thunderbolt
  • Two CompactFlash card slots
  • Price around €3000

I think those specs are just too good to be true, but everything is possible.

Upcoming Olympus VF-3 electronic viewfinder listed in online manual, will probably have a built-in flash

In the German version of the Olympus EP-3 online manual  in addition to the VF-2, there is another EVF listed as VF-3. Based on a previous leak from an official YouTube video, the Olympus VF-3 will probably have a front built-in flash and a resolution of 900.000 pixels.
