Ricoh’s attempt at a limited edition camera (GR Digital III x Stussy)

Ricoh announced a “Stussy” limited edition version of its GR Digital III camera model created with US fashion brand manufacturer Stussy (hit that link for more pictures):

Not a fan of limited edition cameras (nobody can do limited edition cameras better than Leica), but in this case I do like the GR DIGITAL III x Stussy because it’s matches the design colors of PhotoRumors.com 🙂

The Ricoh GR Digital III x Stussy will be available in February, 2010. Price is unknown at that point.

B&H lists the MIA Sigma SD15 DSLR as “New item – No arrival date known”

B&H Photo listed the Sigma SD15 DSLR as “New item – No arrival date known”.

This camera has been delayed multiple times (officially announced at Photokina 2008). I guess Leica is not the only one that has product release delays.

Sony and Panasonic patents

Let’s start with Sony – patent application 20090303371 is for a new Sony CMOS sensor based on the Foveon approach – each pixel capture RG&B:

“Accordingly, in order to utilize the incident light amount efficiently as well as to prevent occurrence of false colors, a method of separating colors by forming plural photodiodes in a pixel in the depth direction of a substrate has been developed.”

Sony is definitely pushing hard in sensor design – as a reference they have ~50 applications in “solid state imaging device” so far this year.

There is a new Panasonic patent application, which has a detailed drawings of a new camera that looks like a Four Thirds DSLR. Brief summary of the main features:

“Live-View, Optical Viewfinder, mirror and prism, of course interchangeable FourThirds lens mount, CMOS sensor, supersonic vibration generator, No Video recording, No in body stabilization.”

Sony confirms the a700 replacement

Sonyalpha.es was able to get a better translation of the DCWatch link (posted here last week):

“Toru Katsumoto, general director of the division of Sony Alpha SLR cameras, has confirmed in an interview with DC Watch that will substitute for the A700: “… the product might be called the A700’s replacement will appear sooner or later.” but can not confirm when, because “when you think like a project can not promise that will appear next year.”.
It also implies that there have been changes in the initial idea for “the control of development trends while following the road map is always complicated,” which might suggest that they were surprised something (perhaps the video?) On full development and had to change their plans, something that is possible for the delay in the appearance of a substitute.”
