New lenses, curved image sensor patents from Sigma, Canon and Sony

Sigma filed patent 2012-181508 in Japan for 30mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2.5, 45mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/2.8, 55mm f/2.8 mirrorless lenses.

Canon filed patent 2012-159723 for a 14mm f/2.8 lens. The design contains 14 elements in 10 groups.

The megapixels war is over, sensor size war is just starting up

The Verge published a nice video recap from Photokina: the megapixels war is over, sensor size war is just starting up. Some of the new cameras announced at Photokina 2012, like the Nikon D600, Canon 6D, Leica M-E, Sony RX1 show a new trend: many manufacturers are producing smaller and "more affordable" full frame cameras. Several companies like Pentax, Sony, Panasonic and even Fuji hinted that they are also considering/investigating full frame cameras.

The latest Canon rumors

This is a quick recap of the latest Canon rumors:

At the upcoming PhotoPlus show in New York (October 24-27) Canon may preview a new high megapixel DSLR camera with 46.1MP sensor, 5fps, 16bit and an ISO range of 100-12800. Canon is rumored to introduce also a newly designed sensor that will be used in the upcoming 7D2, 70D and 700D models that are expected to be announced in 2013. Two new f/4 telephoto lenses are rumored for January, 2012.

This Amazon video demonstrating the 6D Wi-Fi capabilities has a reference to a Canon EOS 4D model.
