Several websites have published Q&A sections to clear all the "misunderstandings" about moving Photoshop CC to a cloud based subscription - see some of the posts by Adobe, Engadget, Dpreview and Scott Kelby. No matter what others are saying, Adobe is taking away an option that you previously had: buy a stand alone version or sign up for monthly subscription. This option will no longer be available after the company stops updating ACR. Even if I decide to never update to a new version of Photoshop, I still have the ability to edit all digital images I took in the past decade. Once you move to a monthly subscription and you stop paying few years down the line, you no longer have a way to use the tool. I personally will be sticking with CS6 for as long as I can and see how this whole thing will play out in the next 2-3 years.
If you believe in online petitions (I don't), change.org is currently collecting signatures to eliminate the mandatory "creative cloud" subscription model.
