Some camera concepts

The first camera concept is developed by Lucas Ainsworth and is called Capture 180 – it takes a 180° hemispheric photograph and allows the user to view an image beyond the dimensions of a standard image. By moving the large LCD display on the back, you can see different portions of a previously taken picture:

Fuji X100 expected on April 11 in the UK

Amazon UK lists the Fuji X100 with a release date of April 11, 2011:

The information I received is that the initial shipment for each country will be very limited. A second, large shipment will follow at the end of March/early April.

The Fuji X100 is already shipping in Japan to customers who pre-ordered it in advance. The current wait time on Amazon Japan is 6-10 days.

Samsung working on NX20 and NX200 mirrorless cameras

According to DDaily Korea, Samsung is working on two new mirrorless cameras: NX20 and NX200. Those will be the successors of the current NX 10 and NX100 models and are expected to be released in the first half of 2011 or latest by fall. Both cameras are reportedly in the last stage of the development process.

Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens gets a focusing scale

In the last moment before start shipping, Samyang made some design changes to the 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens: they changed the design with a new metallic red ring, added a focusing scale and reduced the size of the lens (I believe they re-designed the lens hood). This is a full frame lens available in Canon, Four Thirds, Nikon, Pentax, Samsung NX and Sony mounts. The announced price is €389 (around $540). In the US, Samyang products can be purchased on eBay.

Kodak’s investor pushing for sale or “turn-around”

Kodak's 5 days stock price (Marketwatch)

WSJ reports that one of Kodak’s investors is pushing for a turn-around or sale of the 119 years old company. The current situation of Kodak was described as “deteriorating financial condition and substantial diminution of shareholder value”.

In the past few months Kodak made the headlines with rumors hat the company is for sale and several reports of declining profit and revenue.

Fuji X100 update

  • The APC CMOS EXR sensor in the X100 is produced by Fuji
  • It took Fuji two years to develop the X100

Olympus announced SZ-30MR, SZ-20 and TG-810 compact cameras

Today Olympus announced three new compact cameras: SZ-30MR, SZ-20 and TG-810. The SZ-20 was the camera previously leaked on the European Trade Marks and Design office.

The new Olympus SZ-30MR is the first ever camera to capture Full HD movies (1080p) and 16MP stills simultaneously. Specs at a glance:

  • 24x wide optical zoom (25-600mm)
  • backlit CMOS sensor
  • 3D photo shooting
  • Eye-Fi card compatibility
  • price: €329
  • available: March 2011

The SZ-20 is almost identical to the SZ-30MR, except the 12.5x zoom and the lack of the Dual Engine TruePic III+ image processor.

The new TOUGH TG-810 is world’s first 100kg crushproof camera and it has a 3-sensor compass. HD video recording is included. The TG-810 can be yours for €299 in mid-March, 2011.

Pentax K-r Rilakkuma limited edition camera

Today Pentax announced in Japan the Rilakkuma limited edition K-r camera. Only 1000 pieces will be released on July 8th, 2011 for the price of 94,500 Yen (around 1150 USD). Rilakkuma is a popular bear character in Japan.
