I received an email from B&H with their latest rebate programs:

Olympus filed a patent application for a modular DSLR camera. Here is the description of the system:
“The present invention relates to an optical unit to which an imaging optical system is detachably attached, an imaging unit, an imaging body, and an imaging device.
There is known a camera capable of exchanging an imaging element with another imaging element of a different size according to the purpose (refer to Patent Document 1). This camera has a horizontally-long box-like camera body and a photographing lens for silver salt single-lens reflex camera… Further, this camera has a configuration allowing exchange of a CCD substrate and thus different types of digital cameras can be realized by one camera body.
The shutter is disposed between the attachment/detachment portion and the intermediate image.
An imaging body according to a second aspect of the present invention includes: an attachment/detachment portion to which an optical unit is detachably attached; an imaging element; a conversion optical system; and a finder optical system, wherein the conversion optical system is designed to form an intermediate image, the finder optical system has an optical path folding member, the optical path folding member is disposed opposite to the imaging element with respect to the attachment/detachment portion, the direction of a reflecting surface of the optical path folding member is set such that the optical axis of the folded optical path is parallel to the optical axis of the conversion optical system, and another optical system is disposed on the folded optical path.”
Canon filed a patent for a new EF-S 15-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens in Japan:
This lens will probably be the replacement of the current Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM UD which has identical design:
More Kodak news: Bloomberg reports that Kodak’s shares rose 11% based on buyout speculation. The president of an asset management company said that acquisition “is something that’s been talked about incessantly, at least several months ago there was talk that the best exit strategy would be just to sell the company”. Potential buyers were not mentioned in the article.
Kodak has decided not to participate in the PMA 2011 show in Las Vegas (September 8-10th, 2011). So far Sony, Panasonic and Fujifilm have confirmed their commitment to the show. In this year’s PMA 2010, it was Leica that decided not to participate. Canon also initially announced that they will not be part of PMA 2010, but then changed their mind.
Update: the initial source of this information was the PEN newsletter from December 6th, 2010:
After some clarifications from PMA, it seems that the presented information was wrong and was referring to the PMA Australia event and not the US PMA 2011 that will take place in Las Vegas during September of 2011:
“The event Mr. Marshall is referring to is our PMA Australia event, the “Imaging and Entertainment Expo,” June 23-26, 2011, in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Marshall does not speak for PMA, and any announcements of PMA 2011 exhibitors would originate from PMA here in Jackson, Mich.”
Fuji provided some more details about the much anticipated X100 camera.
Focusing
The Fuji X100 will have three focusing options, selected by a switch on the left hand side of the body: manual focus, AF-S (single) and AF-C (continuous). Manual focus will be achieved with the focus ring on the lens (a distance indication bar is available but no rangefinder focusing capabilities):
RAW button
Fuji X100 is able to capture 12-bit RAW images using the RAF file format. For RAW conversion, the camera will come bundled with Silkypix software (street value: $140). Fuji is also working on providing RAF support in third party applications. No information is provided at that point about buffer capacity. The RAW button has two main functions: to instantly enable RAW format for the next picture taken and to allows RAW files to be developed in camera. The Fn button on top of the camera will provide direct access to ISO selection.
Phase One is rumored to release a 80MP digital back with new design in January/February of 2011. This product is apparently needed in order to compete with the 80MP Leaf Aptus-II 12R digital camera back.
See the current line of Phase One digital backs here.
The Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD lens was supposed to be announced at Photokina but it was delayed in the last moment. As previously rumors indicated, the lens is much smaller than its predecessor (the new version is on the left).
The price is $649 and it will be available for Nikon and Canon mounts on December 20th, 2010 (in Japan). A Sony version of the lens will be released at a later date.
Full details after the break:
There was a rumor floating around last month that Phase One will be coming up with a digital back with live view and RAW video recording.
Last week Phase One announced Capture One 6 and one of the new features is integrated movie import:
Is this the first step for Phase One towards a new digital back with video support?
Here is a short illustration of the new feature:
