Canon EOS M2 camera is not coming to the US

ImagingResource published an interview where Canon’s executive initially confirmed the company’s plans to release the Canon EOS M2 mirrorless  camera to the US market (the M2 is currently available only in Asia). IR later received and update from Canon USA, where they denied any plans for bringing the M2 to the US:

Canon is considering to withdraw from the low-priced compact digital camera market

Canon is considering to withdraw from the low-priced compact digital camera market (cameras priced under $200) and concentrate on DSLR models in the future. The company is citing plummeted compact cameras sales as a result of fast growing smartphone market.

The latest patents from Olympus, Canon and Ricoh

Olympus filed a new patent for 12mm f/1.0 and 14mm f/1.0 Micro Four Thirds lenses. Canon filed a patent for a 24-85mm f/3.5-5.6 and EF24-70mm f/4L IS USM lenses. Ricoh’s latest patent is for a 24mm f/2 lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras (of 35mm equivalent).

Canon doesn’t care about retro design cameras

Canon published a new PDF brochure “Story of the PowerShot G1 X Mark II Development” where they describe in great details how the new G1 X camera ($799) was designed. An interesting paragraph was spotted by Theme on page 14 where Canon is clearly differentiating themselves from the current classic camera design trend:
