Rumor: New Zeiss Distagon 25mm f/2.0 lens coming in October

The current Zeiss Distagon T 25mm f/2.8 lens

According to this FM forum post, Carl Zeiss will be releasing a new Distagon 25mm f/2.0 lens this month:

“Yes, I have an idea about the new 25. It will be announced in October, so keep an eye for the Zeiss website. And if everything goes well, delivery of the first production batch will be in Germany right before Christmas.”

The current Zeiss Distagon T 25mm lens has a f/2.8 aperture.

FujiFilm makes plans for mirrorless interchangeable lens camera official

The Fuji X lineup (from the DCWatch coverage of the Fujifilm presentation in Tokyo)

Fujifilm had an event in Tokyo and gave some juicy details about their upcoming mirrorless interchangeable lens camera:

“resolution and low noise will surpass rival the 35mm full size sensor”

Prototypes of the new mirrorless camera will be displayed at the 2012 CES show in January (in Las Vegas).

There will also be a new SLR style camera called X-s1 that will feature a 2/3″ EXR CMOS sensor and fixed 26x zoom.

First Lytro’s light field cameras are being produced in Asia

The first Lytro light field camera is already in production according to this article from AllThingsD:

“Meanwhile, many on Lytro’s team have been shuttling between Silicon Valley and the Asian manufacturing facility where the first cameras are being produced. While the design itself has been fully baked for some weeks now, the company has been working on smaller refinements and on validating the manufacturing and supply chain process.”

The first Lytro camera is expected to be released by the end of the year (you can see a blurry shot of it here).

Kodak is losing it

Kodak’s stock price went further down last week after concerns about a $160 million credit withdrawal. Yesterday Kodak said that they are not planning on filling for bankruptcy and their stock slightly recovered. The Kodak patent bid is due in October.

Fuji X10 camera UK’s price and availability

Amazon UK posted the price and availability of the Fuji X10 camera: £449.98 (around $700) with a release date of October 28, 2011. Fujifilm has not yet officially announced the price of the X10 camera.

Sony A900 discontinued in Japan

Sony Japan confirmed to DCWatch the discontinuation of the a900 model camera for Japan. This is not really something new since the a900 was listed as discontinued on Sony’s Hong Kong website back in May of 2010. For the US, Amazon currently shows only 20 cameras left in stock.

SanDisk” soon more new cameras will be compatible with their new UHS-I cards

SanDisk promises that soon more new cameras will support their new UHS-I cards:

“Asked about the compatibility of the fastest cards and their technology firm UHS-I, Philippe Williams, director of marketing for SanDisk for Europe, Africa and the Middle East said that the list of cameras would soon expand.

It will be interesting to see what those new cameras will be. For now only the Nikon D5100, D7000 and Sony A77 can take a full advantage of the UHS-I cards.
