Two new Olympus lenses in 2012: M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 and 60mm f/2.8 Macro

In addition to the OM-D E-M5 camera ($999), Olympus also announced the development of two new lenses that will be announced by the end of the year:

The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75mm F1.8 lens has a very bright, large F1.8 aperture in a beautiful full-metal design. This lens is great for portrait photography.

  • Offers high-speed shooting with a bright F1.8 suitable for the studio use, low light shots and indoor sports.
  • High quality metal design and finish.
  • Expected launch by the end of the year 2012. Specifications and price are not yet determined.

The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 60mm F2.8 Macro lens has excellent close-up shooting capability, in a dust-/ splash-proof body. This lens is ideal for nature photography.

  • Offers the 1:1 life size magnification (equivalent to 2:1 in 35mm) at the closest focusing distance of 0.19m/0.62ft.
  • Dust-/splash-proof design.
  • Expected launch by the end of the year 2012. Specifications and price are not yet determined.

In addition to the SD1 price reduction, Sigma also announced the DP1 Merrill and DP2 Merrill compact cameras that will have the same 46MP APS-C X3 sensor from the SD1. Now, this is something interesting. Pricing was not announced.

The DP1 has a 19mm f/2.8 lens (equivalent to 28mm), the DP2 has a 30mm f/2.8 lens (45mm equivalent).

Sigma slashes the price of the SD1 to $3,300, I still doubt someone will buy it

When Sigma announced the $9700 price tag of their 46MP SD1 DSLR camera in 2011, many people didn't get the joke. Well, there was no joke, the SD1 street price was set at $6899. Even their "limited edition" did not help and now Sigma is reducing the price of the SD1 to $3,300 MSRP in the US. This means that you will probably be able to buy it for less than $3k in few days. You can thank Nikon and their 36MP D800 later.
