Pentax K-7: 100% waterproof, video AF?

Those supposedly are the statements from a photographer who claimed to have handled a real Pentax K-7. I think some of those are more science fiction than reality:

  • The camera would not output live video feed through the HDMI port.
  • K-7 is “real” waterproof – you can drop it entirely in water with no problem.
  • K-7 material didn’t feel like metal.
  • AF works in video.
  • Excellent, breathtaking video quality.

Pentax K-7 with electronic viewfinder?

Yvon Bourque (who probably has seen the Pentax K-7 and will be releasing a book soon) writes on his blog “Other DSLRs will have to play catch-up”. The only viable rumor for this catch-up is an electronic viewfinder with the possibility of showing simultaneously information about other functions, such as live histogram or even live view and video with the mirror lockup. Cateto blog remind us that Pentax filed similar patent application back in 2008:

“A relay finder optical system, of a single-lens reflex camera, includes a condenser lens group, a prism, and a relay lens group, in this order from a primary imaging plane. An image, which is formed on the primary imaging plane, and is upside down and inverted from left to right, is re-formed on a secondary imaging plane for viewing by a photographer. The relay lens group includes a positive front lens group, a negative intermediate lens group, and a positive rear lens group, in this order from the object.”

    Panasonic GH1 release delayed

gh1k_topAccording to Amateurphotographer the new Panasonic GH1 will not be available in the UK this month as originally planned. Now the expected delivery is early/mid June. I expect those delays to be world wide. I wonder what’s the reason for this late introduction.
