Fuji X100 now shipping in the US

Update: Today, May 2nd, Adorama and Amazon started shipping the Fuji X100 cameras in the US (ordered on January 16th):

According to Brandon Remler, the FujiFilm FinePix X100 camera is now shipping in the US and the first dealers should be getting them tomorrow:

“As promised here is the update. The X100 has begun shipping in the USA. Several dealers should see the cameras and accessories tomorrow April 29th. Demand is of course greater than supply. The shipments will continue and we will catch up.”

New Sony NEX 3/5 firmware update

A leaked Sony PDF document describes a new firmware update for Sony NEX 3/5/5C product line. I believe the letter “C” in the NEX-5C model indicates cameras for the Chinese market and should not be confused with the upcoming Sony NEX C3 model. Here are the details:

Canon takes a financial hit after the disaster in Japan

Canon profit droped 2% in Q1 of 2011 as a result of the disaster in Japan. Both profit and camera sales forecasts were cut for 2011. Canon’s supply chain is severely disrupted and is “months away from being fixed”. Canon is the first major photography company to report its financial results after the earthquake in Japan. Expect similar report form other camera manufacturers.

No full frame DSLR camera from Pentax any time soon

The medium format 645D camera eliminates the need for a full frame Pentax DSLR

Some interesting points form a recent interview with Pentax representatives in China:

A full frame Pentax DSLR is currently not needed since the medium format 645D camera can satisfy the need for better image quality. Pentax is not completely eliminating the full frame option and can reconsider their position if there is a significant need for such camera on the market. There are currently no plans to develop full frame lenses.

A new zoom lens for the Pentax 645D camera is currently in development (see the latest Pentax 645 lens roadmap).

The previously leaked images of the Pentax NC-1 mirrorless camera were real but were only prototypes and not the final version.

Other Pentax news: the Silver K-5 limited edition is now discontinued.

Olympus 6-24mm f/1.8-3.8 lens patent

Olympus filed a patent in Japan for a 6-24mm f/1.8-3.8 lens designed for a point and shoot camera (28-112mm equivalent):

The ZX-1 has a similar i.Zuiko 6-24mm f/1.8-2.5 lens. Maybe Olympus is thinking of introducing a lower level P&S camera with a wide f/1.8 aperture.

Adobe CS5.5 price going up on April 27th?

If you have purchased the previous version CS5 on or after March 10th, 2011 you will be eligible for a free upgrade to CS5.5. Olympus to continue producing E-series cameras, promises new PEN products

In a recent interview in China, Akira Watanabe from Olympus reassured that they will continue to produce their single and double digits E-series product line (E-5 and E-30). The three digit models are/will be replaced by the PEN m4/3 camera line. There were some conflicting statements in the past from Olympus, indicating that they could stop producing full size DSLR cameras.

Pentax starts new camera teaser campaign

At a Chinese trade show, Pentax showed a teaser of an upcoming camera, covered by a black cloth. Reportedly, the new product is suppose to be “more important” than a regular point and shoot camera. Pentax is expected to release two new interchangeable lenses compact cameras this summer, one will be mirrorless (NC-1) and the other will be SLR type (Auto 110 digital).
